WW2 V-J Day celebratory kiss from TIME Magazine 1945 cover. Everyone has their own mode of celebration.
This DS106 assignment was fun to me. When I read the prompt, I had a rough time deciding which historical photo I wanted to use for this. Eventually I looked through photos I had of myself to see if any of them might fit into a photo off the top of my head. This photo of me was taken by my friend years ago when I was in a hyper mood. It kind of reminded me of this famous photo of a sailor and nurse kissing after WW2. In my photography class last semester, we learned about this iconic photo in terms of it’s actual story. The sailor in the photo later said in 2005, “It wasn’t much of a kiss. It was just somebody celebrating. It wasn’t a romantic event” (TIME). So I used an app on my iPhone called, “Cut and Past Photos.” On this app you can first select the photo you want to cut yourself out of. Then you just trace around yourself with the free hand option and then cut it. I even got to edit that piece by turning it black and white to match the background. Next I added the background in to be the WW2 photo and moved myself around to where I felt was the best place. Now we are all celebrating the end of a horrible war.
