Countless musically focused blogs revolve around opinions. People like to talk about what the best songs and albums are all the time. I ask you, my reader, to think about what artists you constantly go back to. What’s your favorite music and who are the artists behind that music you enjoy so much? For me, good music comes from the soul. Artists behind great music to me show merit when they are humble and use their platform for good.
Influential Artists: Harry Styles
Harry Styles is a British solo artist that comes to mind when I think of high merit. This artist has shown his tendencies to stay down to earth since the beginning of his music career in 2010. At just 16 years old, he was put into a band called One Direction on a singing show known as The XFactor. Most people would see Styles as the curly haired boy in the next new boyband, but I feel like he deserves much more praise than he gets and that’s what this post is about. People that know him really well as a person like to comment on how genuine he is. Below is an interview of Styles’ personal friend, Ed Sheeran talking about him (Skip to 0:55).

Harry Styles is also notorious for being as polite as he can be. There have been several instances recorded online of the man feeling the need to shake the hand of and introduce himself to of every single person in a room. He even went as far as to climb up a fence to introduce himself to all of the crew working at a concert he was playing. The video included below shows just how dedicated Styles is to make everyone feel special.
Charity Work:
- While in One Direction, Styles encouraged his fellow bandmates to work with a charity called Comic Relief that works to help those in poverty and facing social injustice. The band recorded a cover of Blondie’s “One Way or Another” and donated 100% of the proceeds to the charity.
- On his own, Styles spent hours and hours at Lalela Project in 2015 in Cape Town, South Africa. Lalela Project is an organization that allows at-risk youth to have access to important art education. He hung out with these kids in order to get to know them and even treated them to a concert.
- Styles has also used this platform more recently to promote smaller charities such as Little Princess Trust. He used this platform to promote the organization in an Instagram post. This didn’t just help the charity by donating his own hair, but it got other people to join in. The organization thanked Styles for this on their website HERE.
Styles Today:
A more recent charitable act took place in March, 2018. Styles posted another charity on his Instagram in order to get more promotion and support for it. He signed the petition for March For Our Lives to fight for ending gun violence. He continues that support for the cause to this day.
As Styles tours the world today with his first self titled solo album, he makes sure to maintain an environment of peace around him. His moto and tagline is, “Treat People With Kindness” which I believe says a lot about the man. He constantly promotes kindness, togetherness, acceptance and love.
