What’s journalism and why does it matter?
In a basic sense, journalism includes the various processes of gathering information through research and interviews in order to report that information as a story to the public. Some examples of the forms journalism may take include local/national/world news and even commentary on events. Journalism matters for many reasons. First off, it allows the public to be updated on important news information in a digestible form. In other words, the (sometimes tough) information is presented in an article or video to make it easier for people to understand and make sense of what they are hearing. I often find myself disliking journalism because I feel like they are disrupting people’s privacy. Like how reporters might be there taking photos of an accident and be in the way of the police and the people involved who may still be processing and wouldn’t want to be interviewed. However, I suppose it’s good that the press has rules that keep them from releasing sensitive information to the public about death before the family is informed.
