Report on 2 interesting elements of the chapter and help explain why those elements are important.

The first thing that really stood out to me from this chapter is how readers are ultimately helping create news by collecting information to contribute to news outlets in several forms. Most commonly, this is done online through social media. Because news outlets have sought to interact with their audience more over the years, social media has been full of readers commenting on and even creating more stories. Examples of this include posting eyewitness stories and feedback on official news stories. Citizen journalism is also a huge part of reader engagement with news outlets. Some of them even contribute in a more involved and regular way. They do this by blogging or even writing a weekly column of local news. In this way, these people are ultimately creating more official content, but aren’t considered actual reporters. Some news outlets even partner with colleges in order to gain other multimedia content without adding any additional costs.
