This text was difficult for me to digest because the copy I had was missing pages. However, I was really interested in the part where the author discussed journalism as creating community intelligence. On page 32, he says, “Journalists in this vision will do much more now than produce narrative stories… Instead, they will help gather and organize and structure this community intelligence.” According to this concept, journalistic products are final/static. They contribute to a larger collection of public consciousness of information about the world. This reminds me of when we were talking about how we are always part of a conversation. We come into the world in the middle of a conversation that’s been happening already and we leave the world without the conversation being finished. Journalism is part of this big conversation around the world. However, what’s interesting about journalism is that it is recording the conversation for future reference. Instead of everyone just speaking and not having a common point of reference to begin.
