To me, these photos give off a very calm and happy feeling. This is because the time of day was beginning to approach the golden hour where all the precious sunlight is bright burning orange. The sky is relatively clear and bright from the sun. I wanted to capture the exposed brick buildings in downtown Biddeford on a calm Sunday so there wouldn’t be tons of traffic or people on the street. Because of this, we see this town as a calm, old one that is nice to walk through to get a coffee at Elements, the coffee shop. The mural gives the building some character and alludes to an artsy inspiration to the design of the building. The warm sunlight also shows that it’s a decently warm day, but the snow on the ground reminds us that winter is still holding on. So, these photos ultimately give off a happy vibe of a college student strolling along the streets to get an iced coffee to enjoy the warm beginnings of spring. So, as the student strolls along the salted sidewalk, their nose is filled with fresh, crisp air and the slight hint of ground coffee beans. They shrug off their jacket to just be exposed to the 50-degree temperature through their college crewneck sweater. It’s not windy at all, but it’s still a little chilly from the snow to strip another layer to expose a short-sleeved shirt. As they wait to cross the street, the tip of their shoe catches on a snowbank which sends a couple of pieces of ice into their sneaker. Chills run up their spine, but it’s soon resolved when they step into the sunshine. Sounds of car engines and soft voices of distant conversations fill their ears. They have to keep switching which hand holds their iced coffee because the condensation on the outside of the plastic cup keeps their fingers cold. On the way home, the students walk on a path through a gated space between two buildings and the shadows from the trees promise a drop in temperature. This is because the sun is where all the promising heat is coming from.
