Does anyone else have too many different playlists crowding their Spotify? Once in awhile, I have to reevaluate what I’m interested in listening to. My playlists can range from anything from mood themed to focused about a span of time.
This summer, I decided to keep a playlist of my favorite songs. I was thinking that it would be a sort of memory keeping method. Later on, I can look back on the music I was listening to in the past and maybe even rediscover great songs.
In this post, I wasn’t going to just list all the songs off my Summer 2018 playlist. You can find this playlist here if you’d like to check out everything.
But I wanted to just share a few of my favorite songs on the playlist are and what I like so much about them.
God is a Woman – Ariana Grande
If you haven’t read my review on this song, you can find it here.
Anyway, this is probably one of my favorite tracks from Ariana and I look forward to seeing what else she has in store for her new album, “Sweetener.”
This song has a super chill vibe from the voice to the track and I have been playing it on repeat since it came out.
I also recommend watching the music video because it’s very interesting and it’s easy to see how much went into the effects.
My Girl – The Temptations
This summer, I really started rediscovering a bunch of old hits. These artists included anyone from The Beetles to Elvis Presley.
After a long internal debate, I decided this Temptations song was the one I always kept going back to for throwback listening.
If you’ve never listened to The Temptations, here’s your chance to open your heart up to real soul music.
Sing to You – John Splithoff
I discovered this song one day on my way home from work. My go-to radio station played a new song out of the blue and I was blown away.
At first, I thought James Arthur had sneakily slid some new music out there. Both of these men have smooth and deep singing music.
What drew me into this song right away was the beauty and of the singer’s voice and then the rhythm kept me listening.
Ivy – Frank Ocean
I guess this summer was about rediscovery in music for me.
This song is probably my favorite of Frank Ocean’s because of the chilled and dreamy sound it has.
The simplicity of the track also does a great job of showing off his voice in places which I enjoy.
Want You Back – 5 Seconds of Summer
How could I leave out a band with the word, “summer” in the name?
I was toying between this song and, “Youngblood.” However, I went with this one because the track interests me more.
This is definitely a summer song to blast in your car with the windows down.
My favorite aspect of it is definitely the diversity of the guitar patters and voice levels.
Back to You – Selena Gomez
I’m going to be honest: Selena’s music hasn’t really been my favorite. However, this song is very catchy and enjoyable.
I love the semi-quickness of Selena’s voice during the verse in contrast to the slower chorus. Her voice in the chorus is basically like a wave and that’s cool to me.
The show this song showed up on I would not recommend, however. But that’s a story for another day.
Diamond Heart – Lady Gaga
I wrote about the versatility of Gaga’s musical talent in this post.
That being said, I really enjoyed her latest album and have been playing it nonstop; especially in these past few weeks.
In this song, I can’t help but praise the belting Lady Gaga showcases on this track.
Only Angel – Harry Styles
And finally we make it to my ultimate favorite, Mr. Harry Styles.
When I was listening to this album when it came out, I looked past this track. It wasn’t until I had the pleasure of seeing him in concert did I appreciate this song.
I love the very unique angelic beginning. It’s not everyday that you hear such a lovely beginning to a rock and roll track.
Read about what I like so much about Harry Styles as a person here.
That being said…
I really do enjoy all of the songs on my Summer 2018 playlist. What songs would you want to include in your own playlist for this summer? Let me know in the comments.
Until next time,
Vic Wilbur
